Copilot in Excel Now Generates Pivot Tables from Natural Language Prompts

Copilot in Excel can now build pivot tables and charts automatically from natural language prompts, rolling out to all M365 Copilot license holders.

Microsoft has expanded Copilot's capabilities in Excel to include automatic pivot table and chart generation from plain English prompts. Users can simply describe the analysis they want — such as "show me monthly revenue by region as a bar chart" — and Copilot builds the pivot table and visualization automatically.

Rolling out to all Microsoft 365 Copilot license holders.

What You Can Ask Copilot to Do

  • Generate Pivot Tables from Descriptions
  • Create Charts and Visualizations
  • Summarize and Slice Data by Any Dimension

The feature is rolling out now to all users with an active Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

Our Take

This is the right call, but Microsoft is underselling how disruptive it'll be. Users have built years of muscle memory around that Chat / Teams split — expect a wave of support tickets the week it lands. Get ahead of it with a quick communication to your users before it shows up, not after.

Bottom Line
Good change, bad rollout timing for unprepared orgs. Send a user comm now.
