Planner Now Integrated Directly into Microsoft Teams Channel Tabs

Microsoft Planner can now be added directly as a channel tab in Teams, replacing the legacy Tasks by Planner app and bringing the full new Planner experience — including premium plans — into Teams channels.

The new Microsoft Planner is now available as a native channel tab in Microsoft Teams, replacing the legacy Tasks by Planner and To Do app tab. Teams users can add Planner directly to any channel and access both basic and premium plans, including Copilot-assisted task suggestions.

The legacy Tasks by Planner app tab will be retired later this year.

What's Changing in Teams

  • Full New Planner Experience in Channel Tabs
  • Access to Premium Plans Without Leaving Teams
  • Copilot Task Suggestions in Planner

Admins can manage Planner app permissions in the Teams Admin Center under Teams apps > Manage apps.

Our Take

This is the right call, but Microsoft is underselling how disruptive it'll be. Users have built years of muscle memory around that Chat / Teams split — expect a wave of support tickets the week it lands. Get ahead of it with a quick communication to your users before it shows up, not after.

Bottom Line
Good change, bad rollout timing for unprepared orgs. Send a user comm now.
