Microsoft Teams Is Getting Video Recaps for Meetings You Miss

Microsoft is rolling out a new Video Recap feature for recorded Teams meetings that automatically creates short, narrated video highlights. Instead of scrubbing through a full recording or reading a long transcript, users will be able to watch an AI-generated summary that pulls together the most important moments from the meeting.

Our Take

Meeting recaps and transcripts are some of our favorite features in Teams, and we strongly recommend building automatic transcription into your workflow. This new feature takes things to the next level. If you’re already using recaps and transcripts, this will make them even more powerful. And if you’re not? Now’s the perfect time to get on board.

Microsoft is rolling out a new Video Recap feature for recorded Teams meetings that automatically creates short, narrated video highlights. Instead of scrubbing through a full recording or reading a long transcript, users will be able to watch an AI-generated summary that pulls together the most important moments from the meeting.

What is Video Recap?

Video Recap is an AI-powered summary created from a recorded Teams meeting. It combines:

  • Short video clips from key moments in the meeting
  • Narrated highlights, delivered through an AI-generated voiceover
  • Key takeaways, based on the meeting recording and transcript

The result is a single, easy-to-watch recap that helps viewers grasp the discussion without watching the entire meeting from start to finish.

The feature will appear directly on the meeting recap page in Teams, in the upper-left area, when it’s available.

Who Can Use It?

There are a few important requirements to know:

  • The meeting must be recorded
  • The meeting must be conducted in English
  • The viewer must have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license

Only users with a Copilot license will see and be able to watch the Video Recap. For meetings held in other spoken languages, the Video Recap button simply won’t appear.

How It Works

Once a meeting recording is available:

  • A single Video Recap is generated per meeting
  • All Copilot-licensed users see the same recap for that meeting
  • The recap includes both video highlights and AI-narrated audio
  • The narration is generated automatically using the meeting transcript and recording

There’s no manual setup required, and the feature is enabled by default for eligible users.

Sharing, Permissions, and Compliance

Video Recap follows the same rules as the original meeting recording:

  • If you can access the meeting recap page, you can access the Video Recap
  • Organizers can share the meeting recap page as usual
  • Existing permissions, retention policies, and compliance controls all apply

From a compliance standpoint, Microsoft notes that Video Recap uses AI to process existing meeting recordings and transcripts, but it does not introduce new permission models or administrative settings.

When Is This Rolling Out?

Microsoft plans a phased rollout:

  • Targeted Release: Early April 2026, completing by mid-April
  • General Availability: Late April 2026, completing by early May

What Admins and Teams Should Do Now

There’s no required admin action for this update. However, Microsoft recommends:

  • Updating internal training or help documentation
  • Letting helpdesk teams know users may see a new Video Recap button
  • Preparing users for AI-generated video summaries in Teams
